Cooper Lighting and Security has supplied a variety of robust industrial luminaires for the maintenance depot of the Nottingham Express Transit tramway.
NET is the first tram service to operate in Nottingham since 1936 and carried 8.4 million passengers in its first year, which is well ahead of target.
The lighting scheme for the maintenance depot had to provide illumination of the highest quality, using luminaires that were sturdily constructed to withstand the general rigours of such a demanding environment. In addition, it was essential to include adequate emergency lighting so that the building could be safely vacated in the event of a power failure.
To meet these requirements, Crompton Pacemaker luminaires were chosen for high-bay areas, while Crompton Tufflite luminaires were favoured for lower-level use. Emergency lighting was provided by a combination of Menvier Beamlite beam projectors and emergency versions of the Tufflite luminaire.
The Pacemaker high-bay luminaire is ideal for this sort of application as it features a heavy-gauge galvanised-steel chassis with an anodised aluminium cover, making it both robust and corrosion resistant. It is also equipped with a ventilated gear housing for long life and an efficient self-cleaning aluminium reflector to ensure uniform light distribution and glare control.
The robustly constructed Tufflite fluorescent luminaires are designed to withstand the most aggressive of conditions: as well as having high impact resistance, they are sealed to IP65 standard to prevent the ingress of dust and water. The fully integral emergency versions provide a 3 hour duration in the event of mains failure.
Menvier Beamlite proved to be the perfect solution for emergency lighting in the high-bay areas in the NET depot. This self-contained beam-projector luminaire features a robust steel enclosure and twin multi-directional swivel-and-turn lamp heads equipped with high-intensity light sources for efficient illumination of long, narrow escape routes.
