Cooper Lighting and Security has introduced a new lighting design software package that provides a powerful and easy-to-use tool for anyone involved in the specification of mains or emergency lighting.
Compatible with virtually any PC running under Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP or NT, the Cooper Lighting Design System uses standard drop-down menus and toolbars to handle everything from simple lumen calculations to sophisticated 3D rendering for interior and exterior applications.
Entering the project details is straightforward, with pop-up menus and dialogue boxes guiding the user through the process of selecting room shape and dimensions, reflectance or choice of colour for each wall, and the position and size of architectural details such as pillars, windows and doors. The software even includes a library of furniture shapes so that it can take account of the effect that these features have on the design of a lighting scheme.
Once this information has been entered, a luminaire type is then selected for the room - using either a simple search facility to find the product name or an extended search covering number of lamps, ballast technology and light output. The variety of luminaires available is immense, as the software includes full technical specifications of all 1400 lighting products in the Crompton Lighting and Menvier-JSB ranges.
When a luminaire is selected, the software immediately displays a description of the product, together with a photograph and polar curves. If additional product details are required at this stage, the user can also access a datasheet, complete photometric data and CAD drawings.
During the next step - known as light planning - the user specifies either the lux level required or the desired number of luminaires, and the software indicates where the fittings should be placed and then performs an artificial light calculation.
The results can be displayed in a variety of different ways, from standard tables of illuminance and isoline diagrams to sophisticated 3D views and 3D brightness distribution. There is also an extensive choice of standard report formats.
Featuring comprehensive on-screen help facilities, the software is ideal for designing mains lighting schemes to meet CIBSE requirements or for verifying emergency lighting schemes to comply with the latest British and European standards.
The software is supplied on CD-ROM via local Cooper Lighting and Security sales engineers, who will be happy to provide a demonstration.
