Cooper provides lighting scheme for prestigious new college building in Birmingham

Nov 27, 2006

Cooper Lighting and Security has supplied nearly 1500 fluorescent luminaires of various types for the lighting scheme at the impressive new Matthew Boulton College building in Birmingham.

Located in the heart of the city’s Eastside district, the new purpose-built premises include a wide variety of lecture rooms, laboratories, study areas and walkways, all of which have been lit by products from Cooper’s Crompton Lighting range of luminaires.

Using over 1000 Moduspec semi-recessed fluorescent luminaires, the company achieved the requisite lighting level of 400 lux with a uniformity of 0.8 throughout all of the building’s lecture rooms.

In addition, Cooper supplied approximately 300 of the new Solstar recessed fluorescent downlights with blue halo glass for the walkways, together with Moduwall and Moduseal recessed fluorescent luminaires for restaurant and laboratory areas.

All installation work was carried out by electrical contractor Interserve of West Bromwich, and the consultants for the project were the Birmingham office of Couch Perry & Wilkes and SDA of Sheffield.
