Fibbersley Park Primary School

Fibbersley Park Primary School

Background

Formed from the amalgamation of three primary schools in the Willenhall area, the newly constructed Fibbersley Park Primary School features a stylish and contemporary design that creates an ideal learning environment for all the pupils and staff.

The Needs

In keeping with the new building’s overall design goals, the lighting needed to be aesthetically pleasing while at the same time minimising energy consumption and complying with the latest lighting industry standards.

The Solution

Cooper Lighting and Safety supplied more than half a kilometre of its Synthesis suspended lighting system for installation throughout the school. As well as offering an attractive architectural lighting solution, the Synthesis system plays a key role in satisfying the latest CIBSE and BSI standards by providing the requisite balanced lighting using a wide-distribution lens for uniform upward illumination, combined with a choice of louvres for direct downward illumination. In addition, Synthesis utilises twin T5 lamps (28W or 35W) and high-frequency control gear to maximise energy efficiency.

Featuring an elegantly curved, slim-line profile that measures only 66mm in depth, Synthesis luminaires are constructed from extruded aluminium with a choice of finishes. They are supplied with two 1.5m-long yoked suspension wires, which are easily adjusted to length by means of an ingenious yet simple clutch mechanism, allowing the luminaires to be mounted as close as 150mm to the ceiling.

Cooper Lighting and Safety also supplied a variety of other products to satisfy the diverse lighting requirements in different parts of the school, including Linergy high-bay fluorescent luminaires in the sports hall, Cercla wall-mounted luminaires in stairwells, Varsity School surface fluorescent luminaires, Combiform Plus recessed modular luminaires and Solstar fluorescent downlights.

A proportion of all the fittings were integral emergency versions, and these were complemented by stand-alone emergency luminaires and exit signs from the Cooper range. All the emergency lighting was equipped with self-check facilities to minimise the school’s ongoing maintenance requirements.

The Result

Extensive use of the Synthesis suspended system gave the Fibbersley Park lighting scheme a touch of style while meeting the requirements of current lighting standards and helping to keep energy costs down.
