Cooper Lighting and Safety and the WEEE Directive

The EC directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) (SI 2006 no 3289) becomes law in the UK on the 1st July 2007.

The Directive aims to minimise the impact of electrical and electronic goods on the environment, by increasing re-use and recycling and reducing the amount of WEEE going to landfill.

Cooper Lighting and Safety products produced since 13th August 2005 have been marked with a crossed out wheelie bin underlined with a thick black line -

Cooper Lighting and Safety is responsible for the treatment, disposal and wherever possible recycling of all products produced since that date.

Cooper Lighting and Safety has registered as a producer of Non Household WEE, its responsibilities under the Waste Electrical and Electronic (Producer Responsibility) Regulations 2006 will be discharged on its behalf by Lumicom Ltd, under the Lumicom compliance scheme.

Our WEEE producer registration number is WEE/AB0073UQ

In compliance with the legislation Cooper Lighting and Safety will also accept back for disposal through Lumicom on a like for like basis any Historic WEEE of any manufacture (Products produced before 13th August 2005, identified by the lack of the thick black line under the crossed out wheelie bin).

This applies where new Cooper Lighting & Safety products have replaced the equivalent amount of historic WEEE products. If any Historic WEEE is to be returned this must be advised prior to our acceptance of the order and a method and period agreed for the return of this waste.

Lamps are not the responsibility of Cooper Lighting & Safety, but are the responsibility of the lamp manufacturer marked on the lamp. Most lamps are returned via the Recolight Scheme at www.recolight.com.

Batteries are not in their own right considered as WEEE, and in many cases have been replaced through life. Lumicom offer a simple chargeable collection scheme for these at www.lumicom.co.uk

All products returned must have their lamps and any batteries removed before return, as these items reduce the ability of a lighting product to be recycled due to pollution.
